Why I Made This Page
In the spring of '97 I decided to take a leave of absence from graduate school to do something new. It had been my desire for a long time to go to Japan and study Japanese but when I started looking around on the web the only language schools I could find were much too expensive for a student like me.In the end I lucked out and a Japanese friend of mine found me a homestay and sent some information from Japan with reasonably priced language schools in it. As a result of this experience, when I returned to the US in September '98 I decided to make up a site that would be useful for people like me on a small budget who want to go study Japanese in Japan (do a search for "cheap" to find some of my ideas).
This site makes no claim to be all inclusive, it merely represents the things I know something about or that I think are useful. If you can't find what you want then try a Search or check some of the sites I refer to in Other Resources - Other Sites About Japan. Likewise, if you have information about something I didn't mention then let me know and I'll add it to the site.
