A Photo Tour of Kagawa, Shikoku

Shikoku is the smallest of Japan's four main islands. To reach it you will probably cross either the Seto-Ohashi Bridge or the Awaji Straits Bridge, both from Honshu. In the former case the first city you reach is Takamatsu. The two most famous spots there are Ritsurin Park and Yashima. I missed the former, but saw the latter. At Yashima you should see "Shikoku Village". The re-creation of a traditional vine bridge is interesting.
Another site in the village are the "Zanseki", or "Left over stones". These are stones that were cut back when Osaka Castle was being built but they were cut too late and so too bad for them they weren't used on the castle. You shouldn't miss the view of the Inland Sea from the top of Yashima Island, the thousands of small islands are beautiful especially at sunset.
About a one hour train ride from Takamatsu is Kotohira. This city is famous for the Kompira Shrine, a shrine to sailors strangely enough located on the top of a mountain. The steps to the shrine seem to go on forever, there are 1,300 if you go to the highest shrine!
Once you reach the top you will see the "inner shrine" and a beautiful view over the valley.

For more information on these places check the links on my descriptions of Takamatsu or Kotohira.
